Front Row Top Looks- Illustrated by La Mode College
Manning Cartell had an enormous guest list for their show, and the runway was a sea of white sand. The huge collection typically ticked off every trend of the week. Prints, midiskirts, miniskirts, bold colour, white on white, sheer overskirts – and polka dots.
Alice McCall Show
The 600-plus crowd spoke to McCall’s popularity and her fans love of her summery sense of youthful bohemia. And in a cavernous industrial space dotted with colourful sculptures by musician-turned-artist Daimon Downey, models in her signature romper suits weaved their way through with – shock! – smiles on their faces. Best of all were her crochet pieces, which seemed remarkably fresh.
Maticevski Fashion Show
Toni Maticevski is the untouchable of Australian fashion. While he again showed us his spin on remodernising the mid-century silhouette with a sportif twist, he took a futuristic turn with some gold-embellished pieces that twisted and turned around the body. While some sports fabrications were again given the couture spin, he also lifted more banal fabrics such as cotton-linen blends out of their price bracket for a casual elegance. Breathtaking.
Bec and Bridge Show
It was bronzed bodies at dawn with Aussie brand Bec & Bridge showing a swimwear collection that will make you want to hit the beach in winter.
